About Me

"Meet Sakshi Goyal, an inquisitive Ph.D. candidate fueled by an insatiable thirst for discovery. Naturally curious, I thrive on seeking out fresh experiences and seizing every opportunity to expand my knowledge. When I'm not engrossed in scholarly pursuits, I find solace in traversing the unexplored destinations, soaking in the wonders of diverse landscapes. Whether scaling mountain trails or navigating bustling urban streets, I relish the thrill of exploration. I find joy in staying active through various physical activities. Extremely vocal and doesn't shy away to keep my opinion on the table. My Research interests are inclined towards the quantification of the Climate Change Loss and Damage and strengthening the community in their post-disaster recovery phase. I feel providing them with necessary information can help them in the informed-decision making process."

Background

"I have a background in architecture and am constantly interested in learning about development techniques and the built environment. I enrolled in a master's program in urban design, where I studied many facets of sustainability and the significant role that risk plays in cities—a topic that all designers tend to overlook. As practitioners, we never considered designing for climate change. Thus, I made sure that this element would be the focal point of my master's thesis. I eventually developed a preference for disaster mitigation and management, and joined the CoEDMM at IIT Roorkee. But after doing further study and considering the community's perspective, I discovered that community involvement is crucial for effective capacity building. I so set out to find ways to make the community stronger and understand their needs during a disaster event and how as a researcher, I can help the community in their speedy recovery process."

Workshop Conducted under PMRF Teaching Assistantship titled "Urban Climate Risk Assessment."
1. IIT-BHU, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
2. Jadavpur University, Kolkata

The workshop “Urban Climate Risk Assessment” delved into crucial aspects of urban climate resilience. Over three days, we explored six insightful sessions covering topics such as urban climate dynamics, heat and air pollution mitigation, and urban-level risk management with a special focus on flood hazard assessment. Participants were engaged in hands-on exercises, gaining practical insights into addressing heat, air quality, and flood-related challenges using tools like the ENVI-met software.
It was truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and commitment of the participants towards building more resilient and sustainable urban environments.
Looking forward to more collaborative initiatives aimed at addressing pressing climate challenges.

“Despite ongoing attempts of Disaster Risk Reduction, there is still a residual or gray area that is inevitable known as Climate Change Loss and Damage. And yet, if not addressed properly, the common man is the one who will suffer the most.”
